Don’t let his extensive vocabulary or Stanford credentials fool you. He also knows how to have fun. When he’s working, he’s working hard. Matt has led more than 40 cause marketing campaigns in his career, including work with Verizon, Homeboy Industries, the U.S. Army, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and AIDS Healthcare Foundation. His dedication to fundraising and organizational leadership has generated over $25 million in support for various charities throughout his career.
What charity or cause are you personally passionate about and why?
I started as a teacher and I still care deeply about education. For me, literacy is not only about reading the words on the page; it is about reading the world and becoming an active participant.
Who is your favorite artist/musician and why?
Being from New Jersey, I believe that I am required to say Bruce Springsteen.
When you are not working, what kinds of things do you like doing?
I generally am with my wife and children at a park, sporting event, or our backyard. Occasionally, I get to read a book. Very occasionally, I get to watch the Mets or Jets play on TV.
Why is making a difference in people’s lives important to you?
My father taught me that no one ever says from their deathbed, “I wish I spent more time at the office.” I found an exception to that rule by finding a job where I feel inspired to make a positive impact on other people.
